Using a new program can be daunting. You have heard about all the great features of QuickBooks Online and want to use them, but you are afraid you won’t know what to do once you sign up. Whether you are considering making the switch from QuickBooks desktop or starting from scratch, OSS can lend a hand with the transition and we can even get you a discount on your monthly subscription. While you are in research mode here are some things to think about and consider before making the move.
- Can QuickBooks Online do everything you need it to do? – While QBO is a great program it does have its limitations. For example, if you do inventory QBO only incorporates the FIFO (First in-First Out) Inventory method. So, if you use a different method this is something to keep in mind.
- What time of the year is it? – The later in the year it is, the more it makes sense to wait. For example, if you are in October and are looking to make the switch, it might benefit you more to keep doing what you are currently dong until the year ends and then switch over to QBO. Otherwise, you could face having a tremendous amount of data entry to get caught up. However, it would be a excellent idea to be proactive and get your company file all setup beforehand so you are ready to get going on the start of the New Year.
- Multiple Companies? – If you have multiple companies and are looking to make the switch, it is important to know that while QuickBooks Desktop will support multiple companies with no additional cost, QBO will not. You will have to pay a monthly price per company.
- 3rd Party Apps Integration – If you have a 3rd party app that currently syncs with your QuickBooks Desktop program it is important to call that company and verify that their program can work with QuickBooks Online. Most do, but, it is a good idea to be sure.
Overall, there are few limitations from moving to QuickBooks Online. Even if you use a different inventory method there are other Inventory apps out there that you can use in conjunction with QBO. Best of all you know you can count on OSS to assist you with the migration.
